Rensselaer Environmental Coalition

The Rensselaer Environmental Coalition (REC) is a group of residents and other concerned citizens formed to address the serious environmental health and quality of life problems associated with Waste Connections’ Dunn Construction and Demolition (C&D) Landfill.

In November 2025 the New York Civil Liberties Union of the Capital Region, in recognition of our efforts, awarded the Coalition with the Peter Henner award for advancing the cause of civil liberties.

Mission

Close and remediate the Dunn Landfill

Prevent the development of other hazardous projects such as the recently thwarted Harbor Rock efforts to install a river sludge incinerator facility at the Port of Rensselaer.

Vision

Residents and surrounding communities have the right to a livable environment with good quality of life for children, families and others

  • Clean air in which to live, work, learn and play
  • Freedom from toxic odors, chemicals, noise, dust, diesel exhaust and truck traffic.

Structure
